| Fibre Channel cables labeling |
|
Here is small instruction for decoding labels on Fibre Channel cables.
Fibre Channel cable decode example: 800-M5E-SN-I – 8 Gb/s cable, multimode OM3 optics, short wave, limited to 2 km.
Fibre Channel label format: 800-M5E-SN-I – Speed-Transmission Media-Transceiver type-Distance Speed: 1200 – 1200 MB/s 800 – 800 MB/s 400 – 400 MB/s 200 – 200 MB/s 100 – 100 MB/s Transmission Media: SM – single mode optics (OS1, OS2) M5 – multimode 50 nm. optics (OM2) M5E – multimode 50 nm. optics (OM3) M6 – multimode 62.5 nm. optics (OM1) SE –unbalanced copper DF – balanced copper Transceiver type: LC – gamma long wave laser cost reduced (1310nm) with limiting opt. reciever SN – gamma short wave laser (850nm) with limiting opt. reciever EL – any electrical point except EA delta point – non equalizing EA – any electrical point that assumes equalizing reference reciever LL – gamma point long wave laser (1310/1550nm) assuming a limiting opt. reciever SA – gamma point short wave laser (850nm) assuming a linear opt. reciever LA – gamma point long wave laser (1310/1550nm) assuming a linear opt. reciever Distance: V – very long distance (up to 50km) L – long distance (up to 10km) M – medium distance (up to 4km) I – intermediate distance (up to 2km) S – short distance (up to 70m)
